Training Programme

EduWel trains 15 ESRs and one ER bringing together 17 university and non-university partner institutions from 10 countries. It includes senior researchers with various disciplinary backgrounds (educational science, social science, political science and economics), and integrates six non-university partners acting on an European rather than the national level in these fields. The non-university partners have been chosen to complement the expertise of the consortium. Four associated partners are being included to complement the network’s expertise in terms of the transfer of scientific knowledge to the fields of education and welfare provision.

The main goal of EduWel is to provide training that will enable ESRs to become leading experts who will navigate and influence the complex and closely intertwined educational and welfare systems in different European countries.

The training programme takes three years and includes different types of training, transfer of knowledge and mobility:

  • Intensive training and supervision at the hosting partner
  • Three 10-day and one 5-day network-wide training events (NWT) including courses in theory, research methods and complementary skills training.
  • Additional workshops according to training needs
  • Intensive mentoring and supervision by a thesis committee within the European wide network
  • Mobility within the network: At least one visit and one obligatory secondment at a partner institution
  • A final conference including a pre-conference

The four network-wide training activities with thematic workshops, methodology seminars and complementary skills training are provided by the EduWel-ITN senior researchers, experienced researchers from the partner institutions and invited guests. Thematic seminars and methodological seminars include external participants to provide contact with the wider scientific community and foster transfer of knowledge into and out of the network. The obligatory network-wide training is concentrated in three training events to be held in Months 9, 13, 25 and 36.

Besides the network-wide training events, the ESRs participate in obligatory local training courses, spending up to 30 months at their host and at least six months researching at another partner for their secondment and developing their research project with the international panel group (consisting of a supervisor and a co-supervisor at the host institute as well as a tutor from another partner).
